About The Book

Since stabbing her brother, Alexandria Reed has lived at Compton Academy, a mental institute disguised as a school.   But it wasn’t her fault….was it?  Her night terrors had Blackstone Legacybecome as real to her as breathing, and she could no longer distinguish reality from her nightmares.

After a long road,  her doctor has declared her well enough to leave Compton and rejoin her family in the outside world, but she’s worried she won’t be able to handle it.

Turns out she’s right, and the monsters are back.  The sights and sounds of the horrific creatures snarling and snapping cause her to regress. To hurt people.

She’s strapped down to a bed again, the victim of her own insanity.  With the help of Dr. Marcel, she’s hopeful she can once again put the nightmares to rest.

Only things aren’t as they seem. There’s something off about the doctor, and she’s having strange dreams – even strangers than the monsters that haunt her.  Dreams of a reality where she’s happy and content,  but also full of magic and danger

In the end, she will have to choose one reality over another.

But where does she belong? In the safe, normal reality – or the one that calls to her insanity?

About the Author

So who am I?

Well, I’m the crazy girl with an imagination that never shuts up. I LOVE scary movies. My friends laugh at me when I scare myself watching them and tell me to stop watching Apryl Bakerthem, but who doesn’t love to be scared? I grew up in a small town nestled in the southern mountains of West Virgina where I spent my day roaming around in the woods, climbing trees, and causing general mayhem.  Nights I would stay up reading Nancy Drew by flashlight under the covers until my parents yelled at me.

Now, I live in a small town in West Virginia where I entertain my niece and nephew and watch the cats get teased by the birds and laugh myself silly when they swoop down and then dive back up just out of reach.  The cats start yelling something fierce…lol.

I love books,  I love writing books,  and I love entertaining people with my silly stories.

Review | Marrying Miss Kringle: Frost | Lucy McConnell

MARRYING MISS KRINGLE RB BANNER
About The Book

Frost buried her hands in her face, feeling the pressure. Neither Stella or Robyn had the potential for love yet. They were starting from scratch.  But she had more than potential; she had an invitation.  It was up to her to find Tannon; get him to profess his love to her; and save her family, the North Pole, and Christmas for children all over the world.

Oh, Tannon, I hope you’re ready to love me.Frost

My Thoughts

I was provided Marrying Miss Kringle: Frost for my honest review.

This was my first read by Lucy McConnell.  I had not yet read the first 2 books in the Marrying Miss Kringle and while there are references the books this is set as a standalone.

While I am not usually a reader of the typical HEA romance, I do love Christmas stories and wanted to give Miss McConnell and her holiday book a shot.  I was delightedly entertained and even though it’s not yet Halloween, this book definitely put me in the Christmas spirit.

Her characters include a quirky, headstrong female and a brooding, pain in the ass male….what could possibly go wrong???

Written with witty holiday puns and a play on festive wording, Frost’s book is the perfect weekend read to set the mood for the Christmas season.  Pull out a big cozy blanket, a big mug of hot chocolate, and devour the pages of this sweet 4.5 star read.

I really enjoyed taking a chance on Marrying Miss Kringle: Frost and will be looking into Lucy McConnell other Christmas novels as the holiday season approaches.

About The Author

I believe growing up in a really small town gives a person a little advantage when it comes to the imagination. You need one or you go mad.Tara Brown

Needless to say, mine saved me. After it got me into trouble first, that is. That’s the problem with a vivid imagination, all the lies you tell.

I am happily married with two daughters. I have two giant dogs, two savage cats, and a penchant for a glass of red. Also, I drag my bread through the sauce. I can’t help myself, bread is life. According to my age, I am meant to be a responsible adult, but it isn’t going well at all. I would still head off to Hogwarts tomorrow and I suspect there isn’t a single wardrobe I haven’t crept into, hoping to find the door to Narnia. And don’t even get me started on the King’s Road, I get lost.

Fortunately, I am an international bestseller so I have wormed my way into a quirky or eccentric category.

 Thank God for that.

Review | Touched | A.J. Aalto

Touched is the first book in A.J. Aalto’s Urban Fantasy series The Marnie Baranuik Files.

About The Book

The media has a nickname for Marnie Baranuik, though she’d rather they didn’t; they call her the Great White Shark, a rare dual-talented forensic psychic. Twice-Touched by 30361246the Blue Sense–which gives her the ability to feel the emotions of others, and read impressions left behind on objects–Marnie also has a doctorate in preternatural biology and a working knowledge of the dark arts. She is considered without peer in the psychic community.

Then her first big FBI case ended with a bullet in one shoulder and a chip on the other, a queasy heart and a serial killer in the wind, leaving her a public flop and a private wreck. When the FBI’s preternatural crimes unit tracks her down at a remote mountain lodge for her insight on a local case, her quiet retirement is promptly besieged by a stab-happy starlet, a rampaging ghoul, and a vampire-hunting jackass in tight Wranglers. Marnie figures the only real mystery is which one will kill her first.

Too mean to die young, backed up by friends in cold places, and running with a mouth as demure as a cannon’s blast, Marnie Baranuik is about to discover that there’s no such thing as quitting time when you’re Touched.

My Thoughts

Touched was my first novel written by author AJ Aalto and what a great start to a new reading venture.

Touched is an unique twist for anyone looking to move past the overdone world of sparkly romanticized vampires.  This is not a typical paranormal romance novel where the vampire bites the heroine and they fall in love.  Touched is far more than that.  With strong sexual references and lots of steamy tension, AJ Aalto takes the reader down a wonderlandic path of pent up lust and desire.

The characters of Touched are so well contrived that you can easily have them imprinted into the walls of your mind.

I thoroughly enjoyed Marnie Baranuik’s personality in this book.  She is strong willed and determined and a bit clueless, in the most charming way.  Oh and not to mention quirky as hell.  She had me laughing more times that not.

Miss Aalto is a clever and imaginative writer.  Touched was an original and inventive read.  Witty and entertaining from the first page to the last.

The is a must read for all of you Urban Fantasy/ Paranomal readers looking for a change in pace.  I give Touched 4.5 stars and I see book 2 Death Rejoices in my very near future.

About The Author

AJ Aalto is the author of the paranormal mystery series The Marnie Baranuik Files. Aalto is an unrepentant liar and a writer of  blathering nonsense offset by factual gore. When535773_10151501733540276_821915275_23575380_201613986_n not working on her novels, you can find her singing Monty Python songs in the shower, eavesdropping on perfect strangers, stalking her eye doctor, or failing at one of her fruitless hobbies. Generally a fan of anyone with a passion for the ridiculous, she has a weak spot for smug pseudo-intellectuals and narcissistic jerks; readers will find her work littered with flawed monsters and oodles of snark.

AJ cannot say no to a Snickers bar and has been known to swallow her gum.

Review | Invisible Leash | M.H.B

Invisible Leash is the first book in the Cross Series by debut indie author M.H.B

About The Book

My name is Sage Cross. 41714565

I’ve got it all-the beauty, the brains, the bank account.

Women hate me. Men want my Louboutins around their necks.

And I blame my father for everything. It’s his fault I’m swarming through powerful men in suits while I’m stuck posing as a useless, jobless photo op.

Until he sends the perfect weapon my way: Lincoln Black. Mark my words, I plan to use him. In more ways than one.

What I don’t expect coming my way is Jacob Storm, a beautiful, possessive, millionaire who sexed his way through Manhattan.

I spread my legs. My black heart however remains on lockdown.

You’ve been warned.

My Thoughts

I was given a readers copy of Invisible Leash by M.H.B. for my honest review.

First off let me start by saying that the cover for this novel is absolutely stunning and completely attracted me towards wanting to reading it even before the blurb did.

Invisible Leash is the debut novel for indie author M.H.B. for what looks to be a duet called the Cross Series.

M.H.B. did an excellent job of writing her characters, painting them within the canvas of my mind.  I love a strong female lead and even though Sage, in some ways, is weak to some of the powers around her, she is very headstrong and determined.  Powerful characteristics for a female persona.

Along with the characters, the plot was well thought out and left you wanting more and more of Sage and Jacob.  And M.H.B. doesn’t hold back on the steam factor.  Lots of sizzling hot moments between the pages of this novel.

Well I did find Invisible Leash to be a bit wordy at times, and the writing to a bit novice, I have no doubt that M.H.B. will become favoured as she moves forward and becomes a well seasoned author.

Overall it was a impressive debut and I give 3.5 starts to Invisible Leash.

 About The Author

M. H. B. holds a Canadian law degree. She loves walking her dog and debating various subjects with her partner. When she’s not writing, her mind is in another world, with a book in hand. Invisible Leash is her debut novel.
